The All-Ukrainian research/practice conference "Topical Issues of Ophthalmology" was on September 23-24, 2020. Organizers of this event were SI «The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of NAMS of Ukraine», SO «Ukrainian Society of Ophthalmologists», I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University with the support of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The event was online on the website region.tou.org.ua.

The All-Ukrainian research/practice conference "Topical Issues of Ophthalmology" is the huge event of countrywide level in the sphere of health care included up-to-date research and practice program: sessions, scientific reports and discussions of such directions as organization of eye care, new methods of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of ocular pathology in children and adult.

Participants of the All-Ukrainian research/practice conference "Topical Issues of Ophthalmology" (scientists, researchers, practicing ophthalmologists and experts of allied directions (radiation therapists, neuropathists, phthisiologists, pharmacologists and biologists)) had an opportunity to exchange experience, increase skill level and expand occupational contacts thanks to current information and communications technologies. 

The two-day program of the conference was devoted to priority fields: eye cornea pathology, keratoplasty, traumas and burns of eyes and their appendages, crystalline lens pathology, glaucoma, new growths of an eye and an orbit, modern organ-preserving methods of treatment, diabetic pseudogliomas, vitreoretinal pathology, usage of laser during ophthalmo-pathology, reconstructive surgery, pathology of uvea, retina and optic nerve, ophthalmo-pathology of children's age, refraction anomalies. Participants were able to communicate with speakers and to ask questions in online chat.

Director of SI “The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of NAMS of Ukraine”, DMedSc, professor, corresponding member of NAMS of Ukraine, Pasyechnikova Nataliya Volodymyrivna greeted the participants and wished fruitful work.

The first session (the first day) was dedicated to diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory eye diseases. Such issues were discussed: treatment of infectious complications because of wearing of contact lenses; effectiveness of human cryopreserved amniotic membrane when infectious, neurotrophic and ambustial keratitis. Also, much attention was paid to algorithms of treatment of various forms of herpetic keratitis.

The second session (the first day) was dedicated to infectious and non-infectious uveitis, namely up-to-date aspects, management, point of view of rheumatologists on these pathologies.

Televised question and answer session Odesa-Ternopil was within a framework of the conference. There was discussion concerning usage of keratoxenorocornea when inflammatory corneal diseases with the participation of leading specialists: professors Drozhzhyna G.I., Yakimenko S.A. (Odesa) and Turchyn M.B. (Ternopil).

Attention of the third block (the first day) was paid to diseases of the ocular fundus, namely, surgical treatment of ocular toxocariasis. Treatment of macular pathology using microimpulse laser coagulation has been demonstrated. Also, great attention was paid to anginoid streaks of the retina: etiology, diagnosis, clinical picture and treatment. 

The first session (the second day) was devoted to modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of retinoblastoma. Questions were considered regarding the effect of the combined PCT (a new method of organ-preserving treatment of retinoblastoma) was reviewed. Discussions were about identifying of retinoblastoma relapses. 

The second session (the second day) was devoted to ophthalmic pathology from a clinical point of view. Such questions were discussed: diagnosis and treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with uveal detachment, problems of dry eye syndrome and meibomitis.

The third session (the second day) was devoted to new approaches of solving topical issues of ophthalmosurgery. Questions were discussed regarding the effectiveness of cryosurgery in ophthalmology. Current approaches to orbital exoprosthesis were demonstrated.

For the first time, within the framework of the research/practice conference, the professional school "Filatov School" was held with online training at simulation trainings and seminars, where doctors mastered new approaches of diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

56 Ukrainian and foreign experts (Latvia, Switzerland) took part as lecturers in sessions of the conference, schools. They presented innovative solutions, inventions, improvements in ophthalmology and related specialties. Materials of the research/practice conference included 94 scientific publications. 

Online exhibition of modern medicines, products of medical purpose and specialized editions was held within the framework of the conference. Conferees were able to communicate with members of companies in online chat, Viber and to become familiarized with corporate operations, their last achievements and products in personal accounts of companies in the online platform. 

The All-Ukrainian research/practice conference "Topical Issues of Ophthalmology" afforded an opportunity to band famous scientists, researchers, medical practitioners and experts of allied directions for sharing experiences, expanding occupational contacts and business dealings. This helped to increase the main result of medical science – improvement in population health and disease prevention. 

As a result of discussion and shared experiences the following recommendations were accepted:

1. To use up-to-date technologies and principles of treatment of ocular pathologies.

2. To provide carrying out of annual screening examinations of patients with diabetes for the purpose of timely detection of diabetic eye disease.

3. To promote public awareness of prevention of eye diseases. Special attention should be paid to the prevention of ocular injuries in children. 

4. To pay attention to screening, early detection, prevention of congenital and acquired pathologies of visual organ.

5. To strengthen dispensary observation of patients with severe ophthalmopathology: tumors of eyes and an orbit, glaucoma, retina pathologies, diabetic eye-lesions, consequences of damages of visual organ.

6. To hold the research/practice conference "Topical Issues of Ophthalmology" in Mykolayiv on September 22-23, 2021 for the purpose of professional development of ophthalmologists of Ukraine.
