Key words: age-related macular degeneration, retinal pigment epithelium detachment, triamcinolone acetonide.

Introduction: serous retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) detachment is an one manifestation of age-related macular degeneration. There is no effective treatment of serous RPE detachment.

Objective: to present the case of treatment of patient with serous RPE detachment associated with age-related macular degeneration by the application of subtenon triamcinolone acetonide.

Material and Methods: vizometry, ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography.

Results There was performed single subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide. There was observed complete reattachment of the RPE layer. Recurrence of RPE detachment was not observed.

Conclusion: monotherapy with subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide may be applied for treatment of patients with serous RPE detachment associated with age-related macular degeneration
