Introduction. Bacterial endophthalmitis (BE) is one of the emergency conditions in ophthalmology, causing loss of sight functions and eye bulb as an anatomic organ. Search of new effective methods of BE treatment is an actual issue.

Aim: to study experimentally influence of antibacterial photodynamic therapy (APhDTh) with 0,1 % of methylene blue (MB) on a course of BE.

Materials and methods: in the experiment 60 chinchilla rabbits took part, being divided into two groups: I — took APhDTh with 0,1 % MB, II — took APhDTh with 0,1 % MB and 1,0 mg of Vancomycin. We have made a detailed analysis of clinical changes in case of BE and comparison of impacts of each methods of treatment.

Results: quantitative analysis of clinics of BE showed a considerably better therapeutic effect in case of combined treatment on the day 7 of experiment — 76 % of eyes demonstrated integrity of conjunctiva, cornea and iris, that was observed only on 56 % of eyes of the rabbits of the I group, on 42 % of eyes of animals of the II group vitreum kept to be dull, while in the I group 90 % of cases showed diffuse dimness (p<0,05). On the 14th and 30th days the difference was statistically not a considerable one (p>0,05).

Conclusions: APhDTh, being applied either independently or in combination with antibiotic, makes fast antibacterial effect on causative agent of BE. Combined treatment enables shortening of a period of treatment and evidently get weaker proliferative changes in the vitreum.
