Kiev, Ukraine.

Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a frequent complication of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Development and progression of NVG is manifested by increased production of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which levels were measured in blood serum and in the intraocular liquor. Increased IOP is one of the risk-factors for increased production of VEGF. Due to resistance of NVG to most common therapy, the main treatment is surgery with the use of drainage (with or without valve). In Ukraine the new valve drainage device was designed and introduced into the clinical use for surgical treatment of refractory neovascular glaucoma as pathogenetically substantiated method.
