ABOUT PARTICIPATION OF PORTIONS OF THE OBLIQUE MUSCLES IN HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL AND ROTARY OCULOMOTIONS

It is mathematically proven that posterior portions (halves) of both oblique muscles act mainly in the vertical plane on raising-lowering, and front portions — in the frontal plane — on the rotation of the eye, in other words, on excycloduction-incycloduction. Vertical and rotary constituents are counterbalanced in the middle width of the attachment areas of both oblique muscles. The horizontal action of the superior oblique muscle is noticeable almost at all latitudinal extent of attachment of the muscle tendon, at the inferior oblique muscle it is noticable only in extreme front portions and especially grows in anteriorization.
