Experimental-psychologic study of the emotional condition of children with ophthalmopathology in the preoperative period

Introduction.It is known that organic disorders of the visual analyzer influence mental development of the child. At the same time the data about their emotional condition are inconsistent enough.

The purpose the investigation was psychological study of the peculiarities of the emotional condition of children with ophthalmopathology in the preoperative period. 

Materials and methods: there were investigated 31 children aged 7—12. Techniques of Sondy, Temmle-Dorky -Amen were used.

Results. It is established that children with ophthalmopathology before the surgical intervention are in the condition acute frustration. The feeling of alarm arises in the majority of vital situations, and frequently in the situations associated with aggression and isolation that is caused by their physical inconsistency due to a pathology of sight. During the preoperative period 29 % of children were characterized by affective- excited pattern of emotional reaction to the stressful situation; 55 % had an aggressive pattern of reaction and 16 % had astheno- disturbingpattern of emotional reaction to the stress due to operation.

Conclusions. Children with ophthalmopathology before the surgical intervention are in the condition of acute frustration. Their emotional condition is determinedby the feeling of lack of personal love from their close people. They are also characterized by decreased self-estimation, concealment of actual desires and their invented or pseudo-logical reaction, disappointment, inability to accept the real conditions, the expressed physiological discomfort.
